After two days of air traffic controller strikes, rail workers have staged a walk out in France.

Almost 70 percent of rail journeys have been canceled on Thursday as strike action was called to protest the reorganisation of the national rail and train companies.

Once again passengers find themselves caught in the middle of industry disputes.

“Concerning the strikes, I think that there are wrongs on both sides, from the employees and the employers. We are in the middle of it all and we wait. What can we do? Nothing. We have paid for our ticket and that’s it,” complained one passenger in Montpellier.

For one passenger the physical strain of the strike was taking its toll: “A lot of tiredness. I am disabled so it’s enormously tiring to have to spend extra hours in a train.”

Both air traffic controllers and rail workers are protesting government reforms to bring French transport in line with European projects.
