Nelson Mandela remained in a stable but serious condition overnight.
His daughters say there’s still hope.
The former South African President has been at Pretoria hospital for over 20 days, where he’s being treated for a lung infection.
Mandela’s daughter Makaziwe Mandela says the family have been touched by the messages of support from the public.
“There is a lot of comfort that’s coming out from the messages, from people that send us personal messages through our phones, and the messages we get that you guys capture and the messages that are here. They’ve given us strength to carry on and given positive energy that he can come out of it,” she told reporters outside the hospital.
The health of the revered former anti-apartheid activist and statesman has deteriorated in recent days.
Neighbours in Mandela’s hometown of Qunu in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa say they are preparing for the inevitable.
