A source close to the case has reportedly said, investigators located two of the alleged members several days ago and put them under surveillance before making the arrests.

The ETA we have known and suffered through in Spain for decades, will not exist again.”

The six men were arrested in Blois, a city in central France Brive la Gaillarde, and Montpellier in the south west of the country

There is shock and delight in the US state of Ohio – where three women who disappeared a decade ago have been found alive at a Cleveland house.

Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina deJesus, who all disappeared in separate incidents in the local area, were found after Amanda managed to free herself from the house with the help of a neighbour.

The three women were released, along with a six-year-old girl, on May 6.

Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said: “To find these three girls recovered, well, it is really for the police department – it just gives us a boost. Thankfully, and I mean thankfully, due to Amanda’s brave actions, these three women are alive today.”

Amanda identified school bus driver 52-year-old Ariel Castro, who owned the house in which the women were found, as one of their captors.

Police have arrested Castro and his brothers Pedro and Onil in connection with the case.

Celebrating the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker, Pope Francis has used the occasion to condemn “slave labour” carried out by employees at the collapsed factories in Bangladesh.

Making an address on May Day, Pope Francis said: “I think of how many, and not just young people, are unemployed, often due to a purely economic conception of society that seeks selfish profit outside the parameters of social justice.”

According to a report by Vatican Radio, Pope Francis made the remark about the Bangladeshi workers during a private mass.

The Pontiff is said to have been shocked by the news that some of the 400 victims were living on 38 euros per month.

Pope Francis is the first Jesuit Pope, a group known for their vow of poverty.

In the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, volunteers buried 18 unidentified factory workers – victims of the country’s worst-ever industrial disaster.

At least 400 people were killed when the Rana Plaza, which housed a textile factory, collapsed last week.

Thousands of people took part in a May Day demonstration in central Dhaka, protesting against poor safety standards and low wages.

At the rally, union leader Nazma Akhtar said: “We demand wages to earn our livelihood. With the wages they give us it is very difficult to live. On May Day, we also demand full compensation from the factory owners who are killing the workers.”

The European Union has told Bangladesh to ‘act immediately’ to improve safety standards, saying the country risks trade sanctions if it does not take action.

Bangladesh currently has duty-free access to EU markets for its garments.

A new era in Dutch history has begun after a day of celebrations in which Willem-Alexander became the first king of the Netherlands since 1890.

His mother Queen Beatrix – now beginning life once more as a princess – handed over the royal baton after signing away her throne.

Royal representatives from Europe and beyond witnessed Willem-Alexander taking over a role which has been largely stripped of political power. However, it still has enormous symbolic significance for the Dutch people.

And of course with his own three daughters he has secured the next royal generation.

With the country traditionally awash in the national colour orange, April 30 or Queen’s Day, has always been an occasion for partying in the Netherlands, but this year there was an extra excuse to push the boat out – literally with a right royal river pageant .

The leader of the Lebanese-based militant group, Hezbollah has warned Syrian rebels fighting the troops of President Bashar al-Assad they will never be able to topple him by force.

Hassan Nasrallah also indicated that his fighters have been assisting Syrian government forces by admitting some of his men had been killed in Syria.

In a televised speech from an undisclosed location, Nasrallah, who is a staunch ally of President Assad, expressed his support:
“Syria,” he said, “has real friends in the region and the world who will not allow Syria to fall into the hands of America or Israel or infidels. They will not allow that.”

Syrian rebels who are mainly Sunni Muslims have for some months accused the powerful Shi’ite group of intervening in the conflict against Assad.

Until now Hezbollah had formally denied getting involved claiming only to be protecting Shi’ite villages along the border with Lebanon.

Going back to a pledge he made during his first presidential campaign, Barack Obama will try to persuade Congress to close the Guantanamo detention centre.

The US president has failed to make good on his 2008 promise to shut down the facility.

Many of the 166 inmates have never been tried or charged.

“Guantanamo is not necessary to keep America safe. It is expensive; it is inefficient; it hurts us in terms of our international standing; it lessens cooperation with our allies on counter terrorism efforts; it is a recruitment tool for extremists. It needs to be closed,” said Obama.

The spotlight is back on the controversial detention centre because around 100 inmates are on hunger strike. Some of them are being force fed.

Some 40 extra medical staff from the US navy have been sent to Guantanamo to help deal with the situation.
