Cupertino Delays Posting New Plans for Apple HQ While it Preps for Heavy Traffic

Foster + Partners; Apple Inc.
Apple will have to wait a little bit longer to break ground on its futuristic new headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., after the company submitted an updated version of the proposal Steve Jobs presented to the city council in June of last year.
The new plans don’t include any major revisions to the circular, four-story structure—which, at 2.8 million square feet, would be one of the largest buildings in the world—but will likely push the completion date back to the middle of 2016, according to Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, Apple fans will have to wait a little bit longer to lay eyes on the new drawings. Though the revisions are apparently limited to the repositioning of a standalone auditorium, the removal of a footbridge and other minor features, Cupertino is keeping the new proposal under wraps until after the holidays.
The city plans to post the new plan online after Thanksgiving, by which time it will have added enough servers to handle the torrent of traffic it expects from Apple fans, said Aarti Shrivastava, Cupertino’s director of community development.
