An exhibition on an iconic perfume opens in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris this weekend, inviting visitors to explore the history and mystery behind Chanel No 5.

The famous bottle has even been painted by renowned artists such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol.

The famous scent was created in 1921 and was the fifth version of samples Russian and French perfumier Ernest Beaux presented to French fashion designer Coco Chanel.

“It’s an exhibition on a very secret topic — which is a perfume. By definition, a perfume is something which is very intimate, very secret for those who wear it, who live it. It’s linked to very personal moments,” said exhibition curator Jean-Louis Froment

Chanel is believed to have come up with the idea for a perfume after the death of her lover, English polo player Arthur Capel, who was killed in a car accident in 1919.

Three held over Dutch art heist in Romania 23/01/2013 00:19 CET

After being closed for seven months, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum is welcoming visitors with a new exhibition.

A 20-million euro revamp was undertaken while the building complied with strict fire safety regulations in the Netherlands, meaning guests can enjoy new works in a new surrounding.

“The big change visitors will notice is the colours on the walls. Now we have darker colours all over the building. So it is blue, yellow and grey,” explained Head of Collections Head of Collections Marige Vellekoop.

“There is much more to see, much more Van Gogh paintings, many more drawings, letters, artist materials, things that are usually not on view at The Van Gogh Museum,” she added.

On display in “Vincent at Work” are the Dutch painter’s methods, including his paints, brushes and other tools.

Visitors can also see two versions of the famous “Sunflowers” after one was borrowed from London.

The final painting hung was a self portrait of the iconic artist, behind a canvas, holding a brush and palette.

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam houses the largest collection of the nineteenth century painter’s works.

Iran plans oil exports to North Korea

“We have had, and continue to have, negotiations with the North Koreans who have requested to buy Iranian oil. We are discussing the procedure and we don’t have any problem selling them oil,” Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi told a briefing at an International oil and gas exhibition in Tehran. The minister admitted that Iran was feeling the strain of sanctions imposed on the country by foreign governments, but said it would not get in the way of the transportation of its oil to “any country, in any part of the world,” AP cites. A delegation from North Korea is among the participants of the expo in the Iranian capital. A Tehran-Pyongyang oil deal would further develop ties increase between the two states – which are both at odds with the US and the West over their respective nuclear programs and have both been sanctioned over the issue. In September, Iran and North Korea signed an agreement to collaborate in the fields of science and technology.  After nearly a decade of US efforts to isolate the two states internationally, it seems they might have actually pushed them closer together. Previously, Iranian and North Korean officials described their countries as being in “one trench” in the fight against the West, while Western powers accused them of being close partners in nuclear and missile technologies.Last year, to put even more pressure on Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions, the EU and the US introduced sanctions, additional to the UN Security Council’s, including an oil embargo and financial restrictions.According to US Energy Information Administration, in 2012 Iran saw “unprecedented drops in its oil exports” because of the sanctions. However, Tehran boasts that despite economic sanctions, Iran overhauled its oil industry by developing its shipping industry and expanding its oil market.“If Europeans do not purchase our oil, we have also imposed sanctions on them. We have other customers today and more than 60 countries today, in fact, are purchasing our petrochemical and oil products and derivatives,” Qasemi said in an interview with Iranian broadcaster Press TV earlier in the week. Just boo it! Packed disappointment goes on sale in Germany

The creation process appears pretty simple. Matthias Schamp opens a paper bag, shouts “boo” into it, seals it, then the boo is ready for sale.Schamp believes that there are certain events and occasions in this world that actually “require boos,” Die Welt daily cites. The artist suggests doing the ‘booing’ for others, who cannot express their dissatisfaction by themselves.  Schamp offers only top-quality ‘boos,’ his website claims. The service is not free: one “boo” costs 20 euro and comes in a small paper bag, about the size that a sandwich would be packed in. The second option on offer is a large back with five ‘boos’ in it – that is apparently for clients who are reaching breaking point about something. It is not quite clear how exactly the ‘boos’ can be used, but it seems Schamp has been given some artistic license in this area. The idea of the project popped up during Schamp’s exhibition last summer in Amschatzhaus art gallery in the city of Neuss. At the opening of the expo called “Gesammelte Buhrufe” (or “Full collection of boos”) guests were offered bags with the exclamation ‘packed’ inside; and the humorous idea was pretty much welcomed by the visitors. So far, the artist has sold about 20 boos, writes Die Welt.
