Thousands of miles away in countries across the globe, millions of girls do not have the luxury to ignore their chores like I do. Instead, their families rely on these girls to spend hours of their days collecting water from faraway or unreliable sources.

Libertine Fall 2013 Nail Art Takes Us To Mardi Gras In New Orleans (PHOTOS)
I’d give just about anything for a one-way flight to New Orleans — even if it’s to dance in the rain on Bourbon Street. But if you’re stuck in the Northeast like me or on a different side of the globe, why not take a mental voyage to The Big Easy with this nail art idea.
Inspired by art and the collages of color found in Libertine’s fall 2013 collection, Butter London’s global color ambassador Katie Hughes created this fun beaded manicure. She started with a “liquid gold” nail polish called Marbs (available this summer), then glued the same crystals found in the runway designs on top. The textured nail art instantly reminded me of the beads that get tossed around at Mardi Gras. But you won’t have to show any body parts to get this nail look!

Texas Church To Host Handgun License Class
DUMAS, Texas — A Baptist church in the Texas Panhandle plans to host concealed handgun training, saying it’s offering the class as a community service because there is so much interest in the area.
People wanting to get a concealed handgun license in Texas must take the class. The Rev. Brad Foster of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas told the Amarillo Globe-News (http://bit.ly/11x96rw) for a story in Saturday’s editions that a state-certified instructor will teach the first 10-hour class in the fellowship hall March 2. It covers how to safely handle firearms.

Judge Orders 12-Year-Old Boy To Get A Job: Report
A Massachusetts appeals court judge has upheld the decision to dole out an unusual punishment to a 12-year-old: He ordered the boy to get a job, the Boston Globe reports.
When he was 11, the boy had caused damage to a neighbor’s house by spray-painting it. After a year went by without the boy paying any part of the $1,000 he owed, a judge decided to teach the boy a lesson by requiring him to start working.
In the court’s decision, the lead author argued that despite the boy’s age, he could easily earn money by picking up a paper route, shoveling snow or babysitting, among other things. The boy’s attorney countered to the Boston Globe that children don’t deliver newspapers anymore, but District Attorney David E. Sullivan defended the ruling, arguing the punishment would teach the boy about responsibility.

There are a lot of misconceptions about young voters — they don’t know as much as older voters, they don’t care about the issues, they don’t like to vote — but a new survey from the The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) challenges those old stereotypes.
