Nmap 6.25 released with 85 new NSE scripts

Author : Mohit Kumar

After five months NMAP team release latest version of open source utility for network exploration or security auditing – NMAP 6.25 .

It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, but works fine against single hosts. Nmap runs on all major computer operating systems, and official binary packages are available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.

Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics.

Updates:

integration of over 3,000 IPv4 new OS fingerprint submissions, over 1,500 service/version detection fingerprints, and of the latest IPv6 OS submissions and corrections
better IPv6 traceroute support
new poll and kqueue I/O engines for improved performance on Windows and BSD-based systems including Mac OS X
added support for Unix domain sockets
85 new NSE scripts
12 new protocol libraries
Windows 8 improvements
targets-sniffer is now capable of sniffing IPv6 addresses
a number of bugs affecting the software’s security, stability and productiveness fixed.

About 30,000 people in Georgia were affected, as well as more than 12,000 in South Carolina.

Are you affected ? call The Nationwide at number 800-760-1125. Affected members and applicants free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services from Equifax for at least one year.

New Linux Rootkit Attacks Internet Users

Author : Mohit Kumar

on

12/02/2012 05:19:00 AM

Security researchers have discovered what appears to be an experimental Linux rootkit designed to infect its highly select victims during a classic drive-by website attack. The malware allows hackers to inject code directly in any infected web page. The new malware, discovered on November 13 of this year, was written especially for servers that run Debian Squeeze and NGINX, on 64 bits.

About Rootkit : Rootkit.Linux.Snakso.a is designed to infect the Linux kernel version 2.6.32-5-amd64 and adds an iframe to all served web pages by the infected Linux server via the nginx proxy. Based on research, the rootkit may have been created by a Russia-based attacker
1878
.

The recently discovered malware is very dangerous because it does not infect a specific website. It infects the entire server and this can endanger all websites hosted on that server. Drive-by-downloads expose web surfers to malicious code that attempt to exploit unpatched software vulnerabilities in the web visitor’s PC or handheld. Security holes in web browsers, Java and Flash plugins and the underlying operating system are typical targets.

Security researcher Georg Wicherski said that the code does not seem to be a variant of a publicly available rootkit, but a result of “contract work of an intermediate programmer with no extensive kernel experience”. The malware is also likely to have been customized by the buyer, which introduced critical flaws.

The rootkit looks like a work in progress, and contains enough programming rough edges to mark it out as ‘in development’. The malware”s relatively large binary size of 500k, and the inclusion of debug code, is another giveaway that this might be a work in progress.

Malware Swipes Rocket Data from Japanese space agency

Author : Mohit Kumar

on

12/01/2012 07:26:00 AM

Japan’s space agency says it is investigating a possible leak of data about its Epsilon rocket due to a computer virus.

Malware Case : The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said the virus, in a computer at its Tsukuba Space Centre, north-east of Tokyo, was found to be secretly collecting data and sending it outside the agency.

JAXA said in a statement that information about the Epsilon, due to be launched next year, its M-5 rocket and H2A and H2B rockets may have been compromised. The agency said that it was unclear if the virus was a cyberattack. The agency said it is tightening security to prevent any further leaks.

China behind this Cyber Attack ? Recently, however, Japanese defense companies have been targets of similar information-stealing viruses, some of which had been traced back to China.

The Epsilon, whose first launching is scheduled for next autumn, will also feature new technology that will allow it to be remotely controlled by a personal computer. Japan is hoping to compete with the U.S., Russia, Europe and others as a satellite launch vehicle provider and has developed the Epsilon to reduce costs and speed up launch times.

Team found cross site scripting vulnerability in

4shared

, a fil
1d78
e sharing site. Vulnerability link is exposed in a

note

available at their website.

In general, cross-site scripting refers to that hacking technique that leverages vulnerabilities in the code of a web application to allow an attacker to send malicious content from an end-user and collect some type of data from the victim.

Also same hackers claiming to get access over a private server of NATO Library and

expose

the links online. Website titled “

NATO Multimedia Library Online Catalog

“.

Inj3ct0r

member told

The Hacker News

, “

We found another secret NATO server. We received a root on the server and gave the world the hidden database to NATO personnel. Now everyone can look for a secret document

.”

These three servers are available online without authorization, but its not confirm that servers got hacked or not.

RedHack hacker group on trial in Turkey

A group of Internet hackers appeared in an

Ankara court

on Monday on charges of terrorism, the first time alleged cyber criminals have been put on trial in Turkey. Those arrested in suspicion of the attacks are mostly students who deny having the technical skills required to carry out such a hack.

RedHack

has denied the allegations, saying 10 people currently being tried have no ties with the group and that the allegations of terrorism are simply part of the government’s policy against all of its opponents in the country.

The defendants, who deny the charges, risk prison sentences ranging from eight to 24 years if convicted. Redhack claims to be affiliated with the international hackers’ group Anonymous group, and has carried out several online attacks against state and private domains since 1997.

Shortly after the arrests, RedHack declared that the individuals taken into custody had no association with the group. After releasing the statement, the collective brought down several other police websites in an attempt to prove that the group was still operating in light of what RedHack believed to be the arrest of innocent individuals.

The only suspect in the case of women prisoners, college students Kerimoğlu emotion , the fact that no evidence was close to 9 months in prison,’s computer as evidence to show photographs of the Yilmaz Güney and Marine Gezmis criticized.

University student Alaattin Karagenç, the third arrested suspect, said he chatted with a RedHack member nicknamed “Manyak” about technological issues in an online chat room but had not received any instructions about hacking.

RedHack has attacked government websites and leaked information from them, and was previously listed as a terrorist group by the

Turkish government

. On July 3, RedHack revealed the identities of some foreign diplomatic personnel working in Turkey.

Anonymous Takes Down NISD Over Student Tracking

Posted by Mohit Kumar

on

11/27/2012 01:36:00 AM |

Hacker group Anonymous claims he took down North-side Independent School District’s website (www.NISD.net) on Saturday to protest the district’s use of tracking badges.

On Sunday, Nov. 25, the same hacktivist released a statement via

Pastebin

giving the school district “1-3 days” to meet with parents and explain the student tracking program in detail. If the district fails to comply with the request, hacktivist promise to “simply shut down” the school district website once again.

The hacker group also sent a Twitter message to the NISD account on Thursday, teasingly notifying them that their site was down. “

They’re tracking students! They have rights too. I want a statement about this, nobody agrees with that, even the parents!

” Anonymous said.

NISD said it wanted to expand the Student Locator Project to 112 Texas schools and around 100,000 students to curb truancy, apparently a major problem at the school district in question. It was reported that by improving attendance, NISD could receive as much as $20 million in additional state funding, which would more than offset the cost of implementing the program (pegged at over $525,000 for the pilot program and a little over $136,000 per year to maintain).

Now it is your school and your rules, but you seen what I did to your website, and have a simple deal for you, weather you accept it or not, is up to you,” the statement reads. “If you still want to do this tracking idea on the students, at least have a meeting with each and every students parents, so they know what is going on.
