For the blissfully uninitiated, Moore’s original site was a platform to share “pornographic souvenirs from relationships gone sour” along with personal information.  Moore closed the site earlier this year, citing “legal drama” and concerns of online bullying, turning it over to anti-bully group BullyVille. But the Internet’s so-called “Most Hated Man” hasn’t backed off for long. The unique collection sparked massive interest from collectors. Among the top bidders was Melancholia and Antichrist director Danish Lars von Trier. The lot put up for sale by Tarkovsky’s friend and pupil Olga Surkova was sold Wednesday in London. Experts expected it to fetch between $130,000 and $160,000. The collection featured audio recordings exhibiting the director speaking about his work and also dozens of documents and personal correspondence.  An unsent letter the director wrote to the then leader of USSR Leonid Brezhnev, was among the highlights of the collection. In this address Tarkovsky spoke openly of the impossibility for him to work in the USSR due to being constantly censored. Despair came after his film Andrey Rublev was banned from screening in the USSR due to its reference to religious matters. “For three and a half years the film has been kept away from the screen … Andrey Rublev was not and could not have been used for any kind of anti-Soviet propaganda … I do not have any opportunity to exercise my creative ideas,” Tarkovsky writes in his letter to Brezhnev.According to Ria Novosti news agency the collection was acquired by a representative of Ivanovo Region outside Moscow. All the documents will be transferred to the director’s estate museum in his hometown Yurievets.(Image from sothebys.com) Read More
