Mount Fuji is a step closer to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage site.

UNESCO’s advisory body endorsed the Japanese government’s application to register Fuji, which is Japan’s highest mountain and incorporates several geographical and sacred landmarks.

The World Heritage Committee will make its decision in June.

Japan hopes heritage status will boost tourism to the area.
