14 presidential candidates who still owe campaign debt

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich dubbed the national debt a “burden for our children for life.”Ex-Rep. Dennis Kucinich vilified Republicans for adding, by his calculations, $4 trillion to it.Rep. Michele Bachmann, meanwhile, predicted debt will precipitate a future of “indentured servitude to foreign lenders.”What unites these and other presidential candidates is that they themselves are in debt. Campaign debt. It’s a dubious distinction shared by Democrats and Republicans, eccentric nonagenarians and White House occupants.Such debt isn’t really hurting anyone but creditors — certainly not the nation nor its creditworthiness. But it is a reminder that despite candidates’ soaring rhetoric about fiscal responsibility, they often fail to follow their own prescription for sound budgetary management amid the relentless rush to remain competitive with political rivals during election seasons that are longer and more expensive than ever.Continue Reading… Read More

Ben Carson: Latest GOP savior!

Remember way back to when Ted Cruz was the next savior of the Republican Party? That was, what, last week, right? And before that it was Marco Rubio, or Paul Ryan, or Bobby Jindal…and before that, before Sandy, it was going to be Chris Christie. And it’s not so long ago that Herman Cain was the next big thing. Or Michele Bachmann. Or, heaven help us, Newt Gingrich. And there’s always the Sage of Wasilla herself. That’s a lot of saviors over four years. At any rate, forget all that: the new fantasy candidate for conservatives is Dr. Benjamin Carson, a neonatal surgeon, with no political experience, who achieved the status of dream presidential nominee by virtue of giving a good speech at the conservative conference CPAC last week. What does it say about a party that they would hear a single speech by a non-politician and start fantasizing about him as their next presidential candidate?Continue Reading… Read More

Herman Cain: Black Panthers pressured white voters

On election day, Fox News and Drudge Report were up in arms over the presence of one member of the New Black Panther Party outside of a Philadelphia polling place. Herman Cain was equally outraged, saying on Fox News last night that it was part of the bigger picture of Democrats who “push race warfare to the limit.”“My thoughts are, this whole thing about civility, the Democrats have demonstrated they can find new lows to be incivil [sic] about the language,” Cain told Sean Hannity.”This is nothing more than another way to get around the voter intimidation charge and to basically cause white voters to think twice about going to vote,” he said. “That’s what that was all about.” Continue Reading… Read More

GOP civil war: Herman Cain calls for third party

It’s been less than 24 hours since the polsl closed and already the first shots in an emerging civil war within the conservative movement are being fired. Right-leaning pundits have been taking turns beating up on Mitt Romney and blaming him for the loss last night. Donald Trump just tweeted, “Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money.” And GOP leaders are already taking to the barricades on either side of the divide, which basically comes down to this question: Were Romney and the GOP too conservative or not conservative enough?Continue Reading… Read More

Herman Cain’s former lover to write a tell-all book about their 13-year affair

Ginger White, one of political lightning rod Herman Cain’s former mistresses, has announced that she is writing a revealing book about her affair with the former GOP presidential hopeful. In an interview with the Daily Download, White said that she hopes the book will compel Cain “to be a little more honest with his wife, because the details that I share, only she would know.” Although White says “I’m not trying to hurt [Cain],” she admits that he “put her through hell” and that she is angry that women “are never believed” when they tell their side of the story about extra-marital affairs. Ultimately, though, the book’s focus is “Who Ginger White really is about,” she said.Continue Reading… Read More
