The White House Correspondents’ Dinner opened with a spoof of “House of Cards,” in which Kevin Spacey goes to great lengths to complete the seating chart for the dinner. “It must be so hard to write jokes about a town that already is one,” he says, addressing Conan O’Brien.Watch:Continue Reading… … Read More
Presidential libraries are huge failures
The people who built the George W. Bush Presidential Library, which opened today, envision hundreds of thousands of tourists descending annually on Dallas to gawk at the Decider-in-Chief’s artifacts. To pore over the “War President’s” trophies. To participate, virtually, in major crises that he faced. And, of course, to leave behind – in the form of admission tickets, gift shop baubles and Texas-sized meals – as much of the economic gains they’ve made up since Mr. Bush left office as they can spare. The former president’s harshest critics, of course, can’t imagine why anyone would want to visit such a place. The more snide – and less talented – of them make lame jokes about what books may or may not be on the shelves (it’s not that kind of library). Or which gaffes, catastrophes and tragedies from his term in office the exhibits portray (they are predictably criticism-free). Or – as he himself remarked in a recent interview – whether or not he can actually read.Continue Reading… … Read More

A radio show in northern California lashed out at its critics on Thursday after it was pulled off the air for making callous jokes about the Boston Marathon bombing. CBS13 reported Entercom’s KRXQ 98 Rock pulled the The Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show off the air after radio host and “shock…
“Game of Thrones” recap: All men must die, but we are not men
This episode of “Game of Thrones” opens with a series of near misses. Catelyn Stark’s idiotic, self-satisfied and incompetent brother is trying to light his father’s funeral pyre as it floats down the river. He aims his bow three times, and three times he fails to connect, the flaming arrow ineffectually plunking into the water. His gruff uncle, the brother of the corpse in the boat, finally takes the matter into his own more competent hands and with one arrow, sets the pyre ablaze. It’s a funny moment, in an unusually funny episode of “Game of Thrones,” where the jokes function kind of like those errant arrows: an amusing preamble to the final sure shot. It’s an episode of near misses — or really, near rapes — until the very last moment, a brutal make: Jaime Lannister’s sword hand getting lopped off.Continue Reading… … Read More
Progress Kentucky: Worst super PAC ever?
Liberal super PAC Progress Kentucky is at the center of controversy after a Democratic strategist in the state said activists affiliated with the group bragged to him that they secretly recorded the audio tape of Mitch McConnell’s strategy meeting that was leaked to Mother Jones this week. If true, they could face criminal sanctions. The treasurer of the super PAC resigned this afternoon. Now, it’s worth stating that we don’t know for sure that Progress Kentucky produced the tape or is involved in any way — this is just the word of one Democratic strategist, who has an interest in distancing his party from the group. But it’s not the first time the super PAC has gotten into trouble. In late February, they made a series of offensive “jokes” about McConnell’s wife on Twitter, attacking her for being Chinese-American. Even Ashley Judd felt compelled to issue a public condemnation.Continue Reading… … Read More
