Mike White to adapt novel by “Silver Linings Playbook” author

Mike White, who created the short-lived HBO show “Enlightened,” lamented last month that “I’m afraid this [show] will be the best thing I ever do. I think it will be.” HBO confirmed White’s fears and canceled the show on Tuesday, to the dismay of its loyal fans.However, White has just signed on with a promising project for Dreamworks: he’ll be adapting “Silver Linings Playbook” author Matthew Quick’s upcoming novel, “The Good Luck of Right Now” to film.Variety reports:The story follows the intertwined lives of four outsiders who, amid grieving over pain and loss in their lives, come together to form a most unlikely family. HarperCollins is planning to publish the book in spring 2014.”Silver Linings Playbook” was adapted to film by David O. Universal Pictures names “Jurassic Park 4″ director

Universal Pictures has tapped a young, lesser-known director, Colin Treverrow, to take over the next movie in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, previously directed by Steven Speilberg and Joe Johnston (“Jurassic Park 3″).Treverrow, 36, rose to prominence with “Safety Not Guaranteed,” a comedy starring Aubrey Plaza and Jake Johnson, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and recently won best first screenplay award at the Independent Spirit Awards.Before “Safety Not Guaranteed,” Treverrow had directed one made-for-TV film and a documentary.The first two “Jurassic Park” films, released in 1993 and 1997, respectively,  earned $914.7m and $618.6m in the global box office. “Jurassic Park III” earned considerably less, at $368m, but expectations for “Jurassic Park 4″ are promising as loyal fans have now waited for over a decade since the third film.Spielberg will stay on the project as a producer; “Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ “Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will pen the script.Continue Reading… Read More

Pick of the week: A “Girls” guy creates an ambitious thriller-comedy double bill

If you already know who Alex Karpovsky is, you’re either a loyal watcher of Lena Dunham’s “Girls” (on which he plays the recurring and hotly debated character of Ray Ploshansky) or the sort of person who has attended the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, more than once. Or perhaps you’re a member of his immediate family; I don’t know whether that’s Karpovsky’s real-life mother on the phone in his new shaggy-dog road comedy “Red Flag,” abusing him in Russian about how badly he treated his ex-girlfriend. But this young actor and filmmaker’s ultra-indie, Brooklyn-centric obscurity is about to change. A peculiar double bill of very different but thematically related movies directed by Karpovsky reveals him to be a subtle, intelligent and “adroit filmmaker” (it’s the phrase he uses in one of the films, in a suicide note), and he has a supporting role in the Coen brothers’ upcoming early-’60s folk music drama “Inside Llewyn Davis.”

Even Dissatisfied McDonald’s Customers Are Likely To Return, Fast Food Survey Says

According to a new survey, loyal customers of McDonald’s may often be dissatisfied with the fast food behemoth, but that doesn’t stop them from going back for more.The survey, conducted by market research company Consumer Edge Insight, revealed that though only 22 percent of McDonald’s customers said that they were “extremely satisfied” by their last visit to the fast food eatery (by far the “lowest score in the survey,” according to the Consumerist), McDonald’s still enjoyed one of the highest “Intent to Visit Again” scores, with 64 percent of visitors saying that they are “extremely likely” to visit again. According to a news release, only people who had visited the chain at least once in the last three months were asked these questions. Read More…
