Molly Ringwald and Jane Monheit: The universe knew what it wanted for us

Molly Ringwald: Hi, Jane, how’ve you been?Jane Monheit: Good. Really busy. I’m in Georgia right now, in Savannah. We’ve been touring a lot.How much time do you usually spend in each place? Well, it depends. If it’s a club, a couple days; if it’s a theater, usually one day. This is a festival, which is a weird situation because we’re playing a venue that’s been created just for the purpose of the festival. I meant to tell you, I’m so sorry I missed you at 54 Below. I was not in town and I couldn’t make it.I’m playing the Iridium in New York May 8 and 9, but you’re probably not going be there then, either.I might, actually. I’m not sure, but I’ll come if I’m in town. But don’t tell me if you’re there, it’ll make me way too nervous. (laughs) I was nervous when you were at the gig in L.A. Whenever there are other singers in the room you really want to sound good. It’s funny, I don’t get nervous onstage when I’m acting. It kind of gives me fire and I very often think about the people I know in the house, but there’s something different about singing, in terms of confidence because I haven’t been doing it as steadily as acting. But you’ve been pretty steady just singing your little heart out for how long now?Continue Reading… Read More

Twitter co-founder: Hacking not necessarily a crime

TechCrunch reported Thursday on an interchange between Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey and Lara Logan in which the former boy hacker delineates the difference between “criminal hacking” and the sort of activity that has been fallen under “criminal” designations owing to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. He recounted to Logan how he was hired by a software firm after he found a security flaw in their security system through hacking. TechCrunch reprinting the dialogue:Jack Dorsey: I found a way into the website. I found a hole. I found a security hole. Lara Logan: Is that– are you– is that the same thing as hacking? Jack Dorsey: It’s– ha– yes. Hacking– hacking is– hacking is– is– Lara Logan: A crime. Jack Dorsey: Well, no. Criminal hacking is a crime. Hacking is actually a– Lara Logan: Hacking for a job application is not a crime? Jack Dorsey: No, no, no, no, no. No, not a crime at all. And I emailed them and I said, “You have a security hole. Here’s how to fix it. And I write dispatch software.” And– Lara Logan: And they hired you. Jack Dorsey: And they hired me a week later. And it was a dream come true, which is a weird dream for a kid.Hacker Andrew ‘Weev’ Auernheimer was this week sentenced to 41 months in prison for finding a security flaw in AT&Ts server, and leaking information to Gawker. As Weev told Salon, “The government asserted that after the fact, they can declare a given access to data anyone makes public ‘unauthorized’ and have you thrown in prison.” Therein lies the risks of the dangerously broad CFAA.Continue Reading… Read More

Ke$ha drinks urine in upcoming documentary

In case you were wondering what makes pop singer Ke$ha’s life so crazy and so beautiful (which you will get to know intimately in her upcoming movie,”Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life”), it’s that she drinks her own pee. When talking to BBC 1 about her upcoming home movie documentary, the “Tik Tok” singer said, ”It’s my brother and his weird friend following me around for the past two-and-a-half years. We didn’t know what we were doing per se, but it’s my little brother and he’s my best friend. He’s got me wasted at 6am … He got all the things you would want to see and all the things you wouldn’t really want to see – making out with dudes, drinking my own pee, jumping out of a building, jumping out of aeroplanes, swimming with sharks…”

She elaborated on the urine: ”I was told drinking my own pee was good, I was trying to be healthy … Somebody tried to take my pee away from me and I said, ‘That is mine!’ So I snatched it up and took a chug and it was really gross so I don’t do it anymore.”

Julia Pastrana, Mexican ‘Ape Woman,’ Buried After 150 Years

SINALOA DE LEYVA, Mexico — An indigenous Mexican woman put on display in Victorian-era Europe because of a rare genetic condition that covered her face in thick hair has been buried in her home state in a ceremony that ends one of the best-known episodes from an era when live human beings were treated as collectible specimens.

With her hairy face and body, jutting jaw and other deformities, Julia Pastrana became known as “ape woman” after she was taken to the U.S. by showman Theodore Lent in 1854, when she was 20. She died in childbirth in 1860 and her body ended up at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Arthur Reeves, Broward Sheriff’s Deputy, Carjacked By Armed Robbers On Florida Turnpike (VIDEO)

MIRAMAR — Broward Sheriff’s deputy Arthur Reeves thought he was going to die when a shaky, masked carjacker held a weapon to his head in a predawn holdup Friday on the side of Florida’s Turnpike.

Reeves, 32, thought maybe the red and blue lights that flashed in the mirrors of his Chevrolet Suburban — legally used only by police and firefighters in Florida — meant Florida Highway Patrol was attempting to slow him down on his way home to Miramar.

Not until he stopped his SUV and the robbers approached from a red Volvo sedan did he realize the danger he faced.
